1) Plant-associated Microorganisms: Their Role in Plant Health and Disease
Plants are colonized by a vast assortment of microorganisms. Some, such as the mycorrhizal fungi and root nodule bacteria, benefit their host plants by providing essential nutrients. Others, including many fungi, bacteria, viruses, and nematodes, cause serious plant diseases. We will examine plants infected by beneficial and pathogenic microorganisms, observe the microbes as they grow in culture, and discuss how they influence plant health
