Laura Rosenbohm My Experience at Iowa State

I love Iowa State. The opportunities to learn, gain experience and excel in leadership are endless. The faculty and staff are genuinely interested in the students and are very helpful. Since coming to Iowa State, I have been able to work in the communications field and gain valuable experience, while also taking classes and staying involved in campus events. Staying involved in quite a few clubs, ranging from the Triathlon club to College of Agriculture and Life Sciences student council, has been especially fun since I've been able to meet a lot of great students with my same interests. I've also had the chance to be on the meats evaluation team and learn more about that industry, as well as represent the university at intercollegiate contests.

What I Enjoy

I've always loved being outdoors, as well as showing and working with livestock - primarily dairy cows and sheep. I also like to work with photography, read, eat ice cream, compete in triathlons and be involved in different clubs on campus.

Why I Chose Communications

Growing up on a dairy farm did not allow my family and I to travel very often, however I was still able to learn about different types of farming through agricultural magazines. The colorful images and accompanying stories piqued my interest to learn about other types of farming and later visit two different continents as an exchange student. Now I want to use my majors, in Agricultural and Life Sciences Education - communications option - and Journalism and Mass Communications, to give others the same opportunity - travel around the world from home.

My Goals

My immediate goals are to graduate in May, start working as a journalist in the agriculture industry and begin graduate school. After graduate school I would like to write for an international farming magazine and increase the exchange of new ideas and breakthroughs on the global level. With that said, I still plan on continuing to dairy farm, however I may have to wait a few years first.
