Great Study Abroad Opportunities
I've participated in three study abroad trips. I've gone to Australia, Panama and I just returned from a trip to Ghana, where we studied the soils of the country.
It's one of the greatest opportunities the college offers. Iowa State has connections everywhere and you get to see areas that tourists don't see and you see a lot of fun stuff. The tough part is trying to decide where to go because there are so many cool places to study.
Club Activities Helped Me Chose a CareerI'm on the marketing team for the National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) club and our club won National Outstanding Chapter and the John Deere Signature Student Award. I learned about it at Club Fest and it really helped me define my career goals.
Last year we marketed a product called Crazy Wings, which is similar to a chicken drumstick made of pork. We researched every aspect of the product and developed an action plan, business proposal and a promotional campaign. We put it all together as a presentation, just like you would in an agency, and we took it to a national competition. It's a great way to get your foot in the professional door.
The College is Feels Like HomeWhen I first came to ISU I was terrified, confused and had no idea which career path, if any, I was on. Now, four years later, I have found a place for myself in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, defined my career goals and attempting to seize every opportunity the college has to offer before graduation.
My Future PlansI'm planning to go to graduate school right now. I'm interested in consumer and producer education. I'd like to help producers understand new technologies and help consumers gain a better understanding about agriculture.
