English Placement Information

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences supports and follows the policies that the First-Year Composition Office monitors. If you need to take an English Placement Exam you will do so at Orientation.

  • If you are transferring in a course equivalent to ISU English 150, you will be placed in English 250
  • ACT-E > 24, you will be automatically placed into English 250.
  • ACT-E 23 and high school rank of at least 75% or higher, you will be automatically placed into English 250.
  • ACT-E 23 but do not rank in top 25% in your high school, then you are automatically placed in English 150. However, you may choose to take the English 150 Test-Out Exam during orientation.
  • ACT-E <23 but >16, you will be automatically placed in English 150.
  • ACT-E <16, you will be required to take the English Placement Assessment on day one of your Orientation.
